The community of Laragh pulled out all the stops on Sunday last for the Laragh Easter 5k Ramble and Run and the Rubber Duck Race. The ‘Big Duck’ migrated from the N2 beside ‘The Meeting House’ at Broomfield to Laragh Village for the event and the hundreds of parents and children who turned up were pleasantly surprised by the good weather despite the forecast. It was a quacking success evidenced by the smiling faces and loud cheers as hundreds of young children and their parents joined in the fun of watching almost 4,000 rubber ducks take on the challenge of negotiating the rapids of the Owenagh River from St. Peter’s through the village.

Within the grounds of St. Peter’s there was an opportunity for children to see, learn about and be photographed with a variety of owls and falcons.

It was a display befitting the natural wooded environment of Laragh.

There were eight races in total at ten minute intervals. IGWT Broomfield proudly sponsored the overall event and each individual colour-coded race was sponsored by local businesses. The final race was …
