CRIME RATE HAS FALLEN SIGNIFICANTLY IN MONAGHAN, JUDGE INSISTS

LOCAL DISTRICT COURT JUDGE Sean MacBride has taken issue with what he described as “misleading information” in the national media to the effect that Monaghan has one of the worst crime rates in the country.

In what appears to have been a reference to an article published in the Irish Mirror, Judge MacBride said national papers could “twist it anyway they like”, but he believed that crime rates and public order offences in Monaghan had fallen well below where they were 10 years ago.

The judge, who retires at the end of next week, said he believed this to be one of his legacies to the people of the area, adding that he was not going to let what was being claimed in national newspapers go unchallenged …
