HUGE BATTLE TO THWART CATTLE RUSTLING

GARDAI have linked up with the Irish Farmers Association,the PSNI, and other agencies, in a huge bid to thwart further cattle rustling in the border counties, including Co. Monaghan, where several animals have been snatched from livestock herds over the past two years and even full herds targeted.

The campaign was brought to a head at the weekend with a co-ordinated media campaign aided by the RTE-I TV Crimeline programme last Monday, which focused on the wave of rustling in the region.   Senior gardai featured on the TV programme included Det-Inspector Fergus Treanor from Monaghan.

It was revealed at the weekend that a total of fifty-four livestock were stolen in 2013, some nineteen of which were snatched in Co. Monaghan, and thirty-one were stolen last year, nine of which were taken from farms in…
