€36M INPUT AT MILK POWDER PLANT IS HUGE BOOST FOR REGION

THE announcement on Monday last by Lakeland Dairies of a €36 million expansion of milk powder processing operations at their Bailieboro plant is seen as a huge boost for the dairying sector and for the future general economy of the Cavan-Monaghan region.

THE creation of 81 new jobs, plus 180 construction jobs,   was announced as part of the Lakeland Dairies’ investment,   supported by the Department of Jobs, through Enterprise Ireland.

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, made the formal announcement on Monday that Lakeland Dairies Co-operative Society was undertaking the €36 million investment in an expansion of the company’s milk powder processing operations at Bailieboro. He said the investment was supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, through Enterprise Ireland.

Construction will start immediately and Minister Bruton turned the first sod for the new development, together with Alo Duffy, Chairman of Lakeland Dairies and Group Chief Executive, Michael Hanley. The event was also attended by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather   Humphreys TD.

The overall development will lead to the creation of 81 jobs across the Lakeland Dairies Group over a five -year period. Up to 180 construction …
