CANCELLED FLIGHT FAILS TO GROUND EMYVALE CHARGE FOR ALL-IRELAND HONOURS

Like their neighbours Truagh, Emyvale’s 2013 championship run will continue into 2014 after they jumped the All-Ireland Club JFC quarter-final hurdle in Birmingham last Sunday. Emyvale’s preparations for this potential banana skin of a match were not helped by high winds causing the cancellation of their scheduled direct flight to Birmingham on Saturday, leaving the panel stuck in Dublin Airport for a number of hours before eventually flying to Manchester and on to their intended destination by road. They did manage to keep spirits up in their long wait, helped by meeting actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, a.k.a. Nidge, star of RTÉ drama ‘Love/Hate’; prompting jokes that he would provide a formidable presence in the pitch.

The Monaghan and Ulster JFC champions put all the distractions behind them to get off to a flying start (excuse the pun) at Páirc na hÉireann and they were as much as ten points clear at 2-6 to 0-2 by the 20-minute mark, with Daniel McMahon continuing his prolific form in front of goals and Martin McAree also …
