NO CIVIC RECEPTION FOR MINISTER HUMPHREYS “A POLITICAL DECISION”

Veteran Fine Gael councillor Hugh McElvaney this week branded as “a political decision,” Monaghan Co Council’s Corporate Policy Group’s agreement not to host a civic reception for recently appointed Minister for the Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys.

Correspondence was received by Ballybay-Clones Municipal District from Monaghan Co Council informing the municipal district members that the CPG had agreed not to have a civic reception for Minister Humphreys at this time.

“The Cathaoirleach undertook to speak with the Minister and invite her to the Cathaoirleach Christmas dinner on 1st December,” the letter concluded.

Speaking at the December meeting of Ballybay-Clones Municipal District on Monday, Councillor McElvaney said that he was disappointed that the CPG did not want to mark Minister Humphrey’s appointment and he branded it a political decision.
