PRIEST CALLS FOR RETHINK ON “SUBSTANCE ABUSE” FOLLOWING YOUNG MONAGHAN MAN’S DEATH

THE unexpected and untimely death of a Monaghan town man has prompted a local priest to comment on the damage being done to young people by substance abuse. Twenty-nine year old Michael Power passed away on Friday night last at Cavan General Hospital, after he had earlier taken ill at his home at 183, Mullaghmatt, Monaghan.

Mr Power’s sudden passing came as a shock to all who knew him, especially his bereaved parents Michael Snr and Bernadette, to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

At the funeral Mass in St Macartan’s Cathedral yesterday (Wednesday), Fr John Chester CC said there was deep shock and sadness in the community at what was the second death of a young man in the Mullaghmatt area in recent months.
