SIGNIFICANT STAFF REDEPLOYMENT AS CO COUNCIL PREPARES FOR NEW COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ROLE
72 out of the 232 local authority staff in Co Monaghan are being redeployed in preparation for the new local government era to commence on June 1, Co Manager Eugene Cummins told the May meeting of Monaghan Co Council.
In a briefing to the members on the profound changes to take effect in local administration following the abolition of Town Councils and the creation of a new Municipal District structure subservient to the reconstituted Co Council, Mr Cummins re-emphasised the enhanced role that the local authority would play in the future in job creation, the stimulation of enterprise and the development of local communities.
He acknowledged that there would be big changes for the staff, particularly those who had been working in the Town Councils, and for the elected members, but said that the new era was a great opportunity to look at the strengths of the local government organisation in the county.
