HEIGHTENED VIGILANCE URGED TO PREVENT LOCAL ELECTIONS VOTING ABUSE

Calls were made at Monday’s meeting of Monaghan Co Council for heightened vigilance and procedures to be implemented at polling stations in the county for the local government elections on Friday, May 23 to prevent abuse of the electoral system.

North Monaghan Independent councillor Seamus Treanor said that agents and candidates escorting people into the ballot area, and even the ballot booth, which he had witnessed on the occasion of the last local elections in the county, was entirely unacceptable.
