LOCAL POOL PLAYERS ON THE BALL
Spring is in the air. We’ve parked the 40 foot container loads of hailstones. We’ve Binned the salt for the footpaths and ate the carrots set aside for Frosty the Snowman.
It must surely be time to pot the black, rub the hands in glee and doddle out into the fresh air.
And right on cue, the finals of the North Monaghan Pool League are upon us; peeping their noses around the street corners of the county town.
In the coming week, a pool of talent will dive into action for the right to carry home the spoils from their ‘local’ with the Division One and Division Two deciders due to hold centre stage.
This coming Friday night, the first leg of the Division One final playoff will take place with Monaghan town-based pub Tir na Nog hosting their head-to-head on the green beize with Tom Moyna’s crew from Scotstown.
Meanwhile the second leg of the Division Two final playoff will also go ahead this Friday between hosts Jack’s Bar (Tydavnet) A and Squealing Pig.
For good measure, the second leg of the Shield final will take place on Tuesday next with Tom Moyna’s B team hosting Tir na Nog B.
Finally, the second leg of the Division One final playoff willl take place on Friday week between Tom Moyna’s and Tir na Nog.
The conclusion of the aforementioned matches will bring the curtain down on another great year for the game of pool in north Monaghan.
It was a season that kicked off on November 8th. Eight teams lined up in division one and 12 teams in division two.
