WELL-KNOWN Monaghan-based fundraising campaigner Jimmy Mee has confirmed to the Northern Standard this week that he will be standing as an independent candidate in the Monaghan town area in the upcoming local elections.

Having come to Monaghan in 1981 as a 17-year-old army recruit, Mr Mee served for many years at Monaghan’s former army barracks on the Armagh Road, and later became familiar in his capacity as a fundraiser for various causes in the locality.

Over the last 17 to 18 years he has campaigned to raise funds for Children’s University Hopsital in Temple Street. He has also been involved in various initiatives to raise money for deserving organisations and initiatives, including bed pushes and …
