Back in November The Northern Standard brought you the curious story of an Alice in Wonderland-themed party in The Hillgrove Hotel which RTÉ television were covering.

At the time we were not allowed to divulge that the reason for this was that the staff of the Monaghan Town hotel were starring in The Takeover.

But now that embargo has been lifted it’s all systems go. The Takeover will be aired tonight, Thursday at 9.30pm on RTÉ TWO and the staff of the Hillgrove will take centre-stage in episode one.

The concept of the show is that, under the guidance of former Dragon’s Den mentor Norah Casey, staff get to run the business in which they work.

For all those who have ever thought they could do a better job than their boss does, this show provides them with the opportunity to put their money where their mouth is — If they have the guts!

Four months ago during filming Alice (Nicola McGinnity), The Mad Hatter (Brian Connolly) and The White Rabbit (Donal McEntee), who are all hotel staff, braved the biting November air to publicise an evening of fabulous frolics in their workplace — just one of the challenges they had to face.

The trio really seemed to enjoy their Takeover experience, but how did they and their colleagues do? Also, what did Colm and Audri Herron make of the staffs’ attempt at running their business? Tune in to find out tonight when all will be revealed!
