Young athletes from right across the province travelled to the Meadowbank Arena in Magherafelt to compete in the Ulster & NI Age Group Indoor Championships.

For the first time the championships were run over consecutive days with over 900 competitors from age groups ranging from U12 to U19 competing for their respective provincial titles.

Athletes from County Monaghan fared very well, with a host of medal winning performances. Amy Hamill and Niamh Malone were the headline performers as both recorded double gold performances.

Both Amy and Niamh were impressive in taking the 800m titles in their respectivee age groups on Saturday and came back on Sunday where Harriers athlete Hamill completed a middle double when she took the 1500m in the U17 age group, while Malone showed her continued versatility as the Phoenix athlete was an impressive winner of the G U16 60m Hurdles.

Colin Peppard of Monaghan Phoenix set a massive pb in winning the Boys U15 High Jump with a best clearance of 1.50m, his best before this was 1.15m.

Karl Mc Kenna had a busy weekend in the Sprints and Jumps and was rewarded as he took Gold in the U16 Long Jump with a best of 4.95m.
Michael Gissane also struck Gold, as he took the U18 Race Walking title.
