On Sunday last, Gransha Park proved to be a fine venue for the Ulster & Northern Ireland Uneven Age Group Championships incorporating the Novice Races. In stark contrast to the rain and mud of Rostrevor a fortnight earlier, runners and spectators enjoyed blue skies and sunshine as the Championships got under way at 11.30 with the first of the twelve race programme the Girls U11 1200m.

In the Juvenile programme Amy Hamill and Tiernan O Rourke both put in excellent performances to take podium positions in their respective races. Amy who took the U16 title at the County Down venue, ran a very smart race to take an excellent Silver medal behind Annalee’s Clodagh O Reilly who will be in contention for a place on the Irish Junior team at the European Cross Country in Belgrade in early December.

In the Boys U11 race Monaghan Phoenix athlete O Rourke was always in contention in a very fast race and showed real guts to get up to take the Bronze in the final few metres. His team mate Liam Conway had an excellent run to finish seventh which sees him qualify for the nationals in Waterford also. In the Girls U11 race Ava Ross of Glaslough Harriers who was also …
