SOME CRÈCHES FACING CLOSURE DANGER OVER RATES WARNS COLR CROWE

Some crèche facilities in Co Monaghan were in danger of having to close because of the rates burden they faced, Sinn Féin councillor Jackie Crowe told the October meeting of Monaghan Co Council.

Head of Finance John Murray said that there were privately run crèches and community crèches in the county and it would be unfair to give community crèches an advantage over the private facilities.

Matt Carthy said it was not a question of one type of crèche paying rates and the other not – it was the level of rates that were being imposed on these facilities ….
