LIVESTOCK RUSTLERS ARE TARGETED IN MAJOR CROSS-BORDER CRIME CRACKDOWN

Gardai and the PSNI joined hands on both sides of the Border last weekend to smash livestock rustlers and farmyard thieves.

The PSNI swooped on a number of farms in the Clogher Valley area near the Monaghan/Fermanagh Border where they recovered some 670 sheep—all of which were stolen from different farms in the Republic.

Detectives are now trying to link the gang with the theft of several cattle from lands on both sides of the Border over the past several months.

Most of the rustled livestock were being kept in fields in the Ballinaleck and Derrylin areas of Co. Fermanagh.

A senior PSNI spokesman said : “This is a major investigation which involves very close co-operation between ourselves and the Garda Siochana”.
