“PLEASE, MISS, CAN WE WIN THE ALL-IRELAND?”

The question on the lips of all followers of the Monaghan ladies football team was implicitly expressed in the good wishes extended by the student body of St Tiarnach’s Primary School in Clones this week to teacher Anita Newell, one of the members of the Monaghan side who will be attempting to overcome the might of Cork in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park on Sunday. Our picture by Rory Geary shows some of Anita’s Second Class pupils – Tiernan Smith, Megan McAloon, Orla McKiernan, Ruby Anderson and Pauric O’Reilly – demonstrating support for their teacher while the school’s other pupils gather in the background to make their own loyalties clear ahead of the big occasion.
