A Ballybay-based garda has much to be proud of as she was awarded two gold medal for cycling at the World Police and Fire Games in Belfast last weekend.

Garda Eve McCrystal, who hails from Dundalk and has been based in Ballybay Garda Station for the past four years, completed an 18-mile road race last Saturday and a 12-mile time trial on Sunday last and succeeded in winning gold.

She represented the Garda Cycling Club and participated in the World Police and Fire Games along with other competitors from across the globe.

Speaking to the Northern Standard, Garda McCrystal was delighted with her win.
“I am absolutely thrilled as I had been training very hard for the competition. The win came on the back of me winning a bronze medal in the time trial at the national championships in June so I am delighted.”

Garda McCrystal won’t have a chance to get off her bike as she has been chosen to represent Leinster in the Ras na mBán which is a 5-day event that takes place in Ennis, Co Clare in September.
