After a long spell off the racing circuit Declan Mc Kenna is beginning to make a bit of a comeback on the scene. He successfully completed his first race back in the Roundwood Grand Prix in Co. Wicklow two weeks ago finishing safely in the main peleton but upped it a notch on Saturday last by winning the Ballivor Grand Prix A4 race.

Navan Road Club had a great turnout for the Ballivor GP with perfect cycling conditions last Saturday. Bryan Mc Crystal and Neil Delahaye made the break early and stayed away with Mc Crystaltaking first on the line. Attacks continued from the chasing bunch throughout. The main group stayed together for the most part giving an exciting sprint to the line to determine the winners. The race was handicapped with A4s getting a 2 minute advantage over the other groups the race started to merge together before the halfway point and a large bunch soon gathered on what was a technical circuit.

Many riders got dropped due to the intense pace and constant attacking. With the first two places
taken it was down to a bunch sprint with up to 80 riders pushing and shoving their way to the finish line. Declan Mc Kenna sprinted to the forefront of the bunch to finish in the top 15 and claim the overall prize for first A4. Well done also to Sunday morning regular with the ..
