MONAGHAN town’s well-known Hillgrove Hotel won a prestigious national award on Friday night last when it was named ‘Number One Family Hotel’ at a glittering ceremony in Dublin’s Mansion House.

The 4-star hotel fended off the competition to pick up the honour at the Families First Awards, which seeks recognise companies, products and people who “put Irish families first” — and make life a little easier for them.

The awards were presented by Lucy Kennedy of RTE and TV3 fame, in what was a memorable night of glitz and glamour enjoyed by a large contingent of management and staff from the Hillgrove Hotel, Leisure & Spa.

“We are totally thrilled to have been honoured with this fantastic award,” said Audri Herron, who owns the Hillgrove with her husband Colm. “A few years back, we saw the potential and need in the market place for an excellent family hotel that ‘treats kids like VIPs’,” she said.

“We understand what families are looking for, being guided by our eight-year-old daughter Scarlett. So we set about creating a family-friendly environment with lots of activities for children to enjoy whilst …
