Work to restore the site of the former Monaghan mixed used development project to a car-parking area was due for completion in August, Town Engineer Dermot Deeney informed the members of Monaghan Town Council on Monday evening.

The Engineer said the Council was due to meet contractors Clarkes on Thursday morning in relation to the work.

Independent councillor Seamus Treanor said they were now into the last few weeks of the saga of the infamous “hole in the ground”. He thought that the Council’s engineering staff should now oversee the provision of electricity and water connections at the site and ensure that the finished work conformed to 21st century standards. The car-park should fully conform to all requirements “so we will not be told what we should have done afterwards.”
