The Blackwater 10k took place at Gortakeegan, Rossmore, Monaghan. An estimated 1200 people showed up on the day. This fun run family day has been going from strength to strength for the past six years.

This success is all down to the hard work and dedication of the committee Eamonn Hackett, Amanda McGweon, Geraldine Connolly, Jerome Savage, Malachy McMenamin, Lorna Wilson, Sean Conlon, Paul McGwoen Brian Peppard, Peter McKenna Paddy Sherry and Ann Bowe.

A big thank you to Alexi Treanor for doing massage, all the volunteers who give up their Saturday and Sunday especially everyone from Monaghan Special Olympics. Brendan Buckley and the Monaghan Civil Defence, Monaghan Gortakeegan for allowing us to use the club house and grounds, Francie McQuaid Tyers, Grahams and Kentucky for allowing us to use their car parks. Loren McMahon, Gazebo Hire Clontibret ( 086-843 7088) for the donation of Gazebo’s. A huge big thank you should go out to our sponsors, Monaghan Credit Union, The Northern Standard, Ace Cabs, Petshoponline, Balti House, Leak Detection, Magills Jewellers, O’Hanrahan Travel, Pinky & Perkys, McCaul & Boyle Kitchens, Top of the Tots Playschool without their sponsorship this Fun Run would not work.

We are very proud to announce that this year 2013 all proceeds will be going to Monaghan Special Olympics.

Special Olympics are run over a four year cycle – Area, Regional, National and World Games. This year they are competing in the Regional Games. There is a lot of extra cost involved in travelling to the games, getting the competitors kitted out properly, etc. These costs are on top of the normal running costs of the Club which includes room hire, athletic track hire, swimming pool and coaching costs. This is why we felt this worthwhile charity will receive the 2013 funding
