MAN AND WOMAN CHARGED FOLLOWING FATAL ACCIDENT NEAR MONAGHAN TOWN

TWO people, a man and a woman, appeared at Monaghan District Court on Monday following a fatal road accident that occurred at Crowey, Silverstream in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 43-year-old Latvian man, Edvins Danilovs, who had been living in Claremorris, Co Mayo died when the car in which he was a passenger is understood to have struck at ditch just before 2am on Saturday.

The incident took place on the R185, a minor road linking Glaslough village to the Old Armagh Road out of Monaghan town.

Mr Danilovs was taken to Cavan General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The female driver of the car, one of the two people who appeared at Monaghan Court on Monday, was taken to Cavan hospital with minor injuries, while another woman who was travelling in the car was not injured.

Sources have indicated that a seven-year-old child believed to have been travelling in the car at the time may also have received injuries to the leg or foot.
