A Monaghan Town Council official has admitted that pay parking machines in the town should not have been in operation on Friday last, 29th March.

In accordance with the town council bye-laws Good Friday is classed as a holiday meaning that pay parking rates do not apply.

The spokesperson said that it was an “oversight” and “will be taken care of in the future.”
The issue was highlighted by one alert individual who placed notices on some of the parking machines to warn motorists that fees should not apply.

However, the identity of this ‘Good Samaritan’ from a motorist’s point of view remains unknown.
