PARADE PRIZES PRESENTED – TOWN COUNCIL TO SEEK GREATER SCHOOLS AND BUSINESS PARTICIPATION IN ST PATRICK CELEBRATIONS

A plan to generate greater involvement from local schools and businesses in Monaghan Town’s annual St Patrick’s Day parade and celebrations was formulated at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Town Council, when prizes were awarded to some of the outstanding participants in this year’s event.

At the outset of the meeting, Cathaoirleach Seamus Treanor presented a trophy to representatives of Monaghan Community Brass Band, who for the first time in their long association with the Monaghan Parade achieved the accolade of Best Marching Band.

A prize for Best Commercial Float was conferred by the Cathaoirleach on the Bluebells Health & Beauty Clinic in Ballybay.

The Best Community Float award, which goes to Carrickroe Festival Committee, will be presented at a later stage.

During discussion on the 2013 Parade later in the meeting, Mary Carroll congratulated Boyle’s Menswear on winning the best Irish language window display accolade, and paid tribute to all the local commercial outlets who had decorated their windows appropriately for the celebrations.
