The top Intermediate and Masters in the country gathered at the Gransha Campus in Derry on Sunday last, and despite the rain holding off for much of the day the underfoot condition got heavier as the day passed.
The Masters Ladies race over 4km was the first of the Senior races to take place, where last year’s top two were amongst the line-up, also in the field was Donna Evans and Helen Stockdale.
After a false start the field got away at the second time off asking. Right from the off Beijing Olympian Pauline Curley of Tullamore Harriers took the race to the field with on form Mary Scully from the Mullingar club the only athlete able to put up any fight to her.
As the athletes came back towards the finish after the first of their three laps Pauline Curley had a 10m lead from Scully who in turn was clear of Mayo’s Collette Tuohy, with Donna Evans in fourth and leading athlete in her category, while Helen Stockdale was just inside the top 20.
