PRESIDENT OF CO MONAGHAN BAR ASSOCIATION VOICES CONCERN OVER CLONES COURT REVIEW

Further to the report published in last week’s Northern Standard  the President of the Co Monaghan Bar Association has this week voiced his concern at the decision of the Courts Service to review Clones District Court as a suitable court venue.
Speaking to the Northern Standard, local Clones solicitor Kevin Hickey, said while it appears that the Courts Service was wrong if it believed that closing court venues would save money.
Mr Hickey, who has the support of other solicitors in the area said that Clones Courthouse “was renovated at a cost of well in excess of one million euro.”
The work had only been completed four years ago and it was a state of the art building most suitable for its purpose. “The current running costs of the building are minimal,” stated Mr Hickey.
The building, which re-opened in May 2009 after being refurbished comprises the court room, court users’ waiting room, consultation room, kitchen, judge’s chambers and other facilities.
