A 22-year-old male appeared before Dungannon Magistrates Court yesterday, Wednesday afternoon on a charge alleging the manslaughter of 19-year-old Jason McGovern from Tydavnet, Co Monaghan.

Mark Donnelly of Greencastle Road, Omagh, Co Tyrone was granted bail subject to conditions.

A PSNI officer told the court that he could connect Mr Donnelly to the charge.

Jason McGovern died as a result of head injuries received when he was the victim of two separate assaults in Omagh while socialising on New Year’s Eve.

Following the incidents Mr McGovern returned to a friend’s house in Emyvale where he was staying, but was found dead there some hours later.

No further details of the incident or why Mr Donnelly has been linked to the death were disclosed at yesterday afternoon’s brief hearing.

Deputy District Judge Gerry Trainor set bail at £1,000, with a £10,000 surety and banned the accused from entering Omagh except to see his GP, sign bail with police or attend court.
