WOMAN ARRESTED AS INVESTIGATIONS CONTINUE INTO MONAGHAN STUDENT’S DEATH

A 21-year-old woman was arrested in the Omagh area on Thursday last as part of the ongoing Police Service of Northern Ireland investigation into the death of 19-year-old Jason McGovern of Tydavnet, Co Monaghan.
The Knocknagrave student died on New Year’s Eve following assaults he suffered while socialising in Omagh the previous evening.
A murder investigation was launched following post mortem findings that Mr McGovern died as the result of a serious head injury.
Five men, aged between 17 and 21, have already appeared in court on charges in connection with the death.
Another 23-year-old male who was arrested as part of the investigation has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Richard Harness of the Serious Crime Branch, who is leading the investigation, said that while detectives had made a number of arrests, he expected the investigation to continue for some time.
Det C/I Harkness has renewed his appeal for public assistance in gathering information surrounding the events that led to the student’s death.
