“CREEPER” BURGLARIES FOILED AS HOMEOWNERS HEED GARDA ADVICE

TWO “creeper”-style burglaries occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning last at the Montfort housing estate in Monaghan town, but the perpetrators failed in their efforts to secure the keys of homeowners’ cars.
Gardai have confirmed, however, that items including iPads and some cash were taken in the break-ins.
A spokesperson stressed that the homeowners had heeded earlier crime prevention advice and had kept their car keys hidden, thereby foiling any attempts to steal vehicles from the houses.
Gardai are linking these two incidents to another recent creeper burglary in the Knockcarraig Estate at Annyalla Castleblayney, where a silver Mercedes car was stolen.
They are again advising house owners to hide their car keys, set house alarms, and avoid leaving cash, laptops, iPads or other valuable items visible.
Members of the public are urged to report all suspicious activity, no matter what time of the night it occurs. Gardai will respond promptly, the spokesperson assured the Northern Standard.
