‘CLONES CYCLONE’ RE-ENTERS RING FOR FINAL ROUND OF EIGHT-WEEK BOXING PROGRAMME

The resounding success of an eight-week Journey of Equals Peace III intergenerational project that was delivered by the Barry McGuigan Boxing Academy (BMBA) was celebrated at an event in the Iontas Centre, Castleblayney last Thursday evening, 22nd November.
The project saw a free pilot boxing programme aimed at young and old alike run for eight weeks in Teach na nDaoine in Monaghan and the Phoenix Centre in Carrickmacross.
More than 30 people ranging in age from 12 to 71 signed up to take part. The ‘Clones Cyclone’ Barry McGuigan, was present in the Iontas Centre to mark the conclusion of the programme and award certificates to participants.
Acting County Manager David Fallon welcomed all present and said that in relation to the night’s event Monaghan County Council had combined two programmes: the Age Friendly County and Peace III.
