Marc Brennan of Old school ABC Smithboro produced a terrific performance in Tyholland last weekend in the Ulster 9-County novice final. Boxing Oran Shields from Letterkenny ABC in what many considered one of the bouts of the championships. Brennan got of to a blistering start and took a early and convincing lead. Going into the third round he was eight points clear and looked a dead cert for the Ulster title. Shields came back very strong and for many parts of the round there were heavy toe to toe exchanges. The decision went 28-23 in favour of Shields to deny Brennan the Ulster title. Marc can come away from this championship with bundles of experience which will carry him to the Mid-Ulsters the qualifiers for the All Ireland’s. In his semi-final he also showed immense improvement in power house punching with a third round stoppage over Patrick McColgan of Lisnafin ABC. The hard training is certainly paying of for Marc.
