BLACKWATER 10K BENEFITS LOCAL VOLUNTARY GROUPS

6 July 2012 No Comments by The Northern Standard

Charitable contributions resulting from proceeds raised at the recent Blackwater 10k Run n’ Walk held in Rossmore Park were presented last Wednesday in the Squealing Pig Bar. Donal Kenny representing The Arch Club and Maeve McCluskey from Hospice Home Care, both received a check for €1,500 on behalf of their respective voluntary organisations.
The attendance on the day of this hugely popular community event, now in its fifth year, of almost a thousand participants highlighted the popularity of these two worthy causes and the service they provide in the Monaghan area.
Also attending at the presentation event were some of our sponsors, Tause from Eastern Balti House, Raymond Aughey from Pinky & Perkys and Rory Geary from the Northern Standard. We would like to pass on a huge thank you to the rest of our sponsors; Mark Clifford, O’Hanrahan Travel; Brendan McCleary, Pet shop online; Gwen Moffett, Ace Cabs; Gerry Toal, Magills Jewellers; Aine Kelly, Step to a Better Health and Ann Watterson, The Northern Standard.
Without their sponsorship the run would not have been a success, especially the provision of t-shirts and medals to all participants on the day.
The Blackwater Committee would like to thank Brendan Buckley from the Civil Defence, Kristine Meenaghan from Monaghan Sports Partnership, Sean McCaffrey from Northern Sound, Rita Shah from Shabra Plastics, Malachy McMenamin from Perks Beverge Ltd, Java Republic Dublin, Linwoods Bakery, Jim Fanning from Fanning’s Bakery and Brennans Bread, for all their help.
Thank you to Grahams Furniture, Century Homes, McQuaid Tyres and Barry Aughey for parking facilities on the day also thank you to both Monaghan Town and County Councils, David Maxwell, Barry Drew, all the volunteers and Monaghan United Football Club for all their help.
A special thank you should go to Monaghan Shopping Centre for allowing us to use the mall for registration, to all the chemists who donated samples for our goodie bags, Monaghan Lions Club for all their advice and direction, lastly Grainne Finnan and Lorna Wilson representing the Lions Club for all their time and dedication throughout the preparation.
I would like to give an acknowledgment to Patrick Cassidy, Gerry Toal, Donna Evans, Aidan Campbell and Matthew Skinnader for taking time out to talk to me about their experience with the run. Thank you!!
The Blackwater 10k Committee are looking forward to the 2013 run where we hope we will have many more sponsors who will be willing to donate to our huge event and ensure the continued success of county Monaghan’s largest annual mass participation event.
