On Monday morning last Eilish Deery from Ballybay was out for her daily walk when a herd of deer crossed the road at Derryallery, one of them crashed into the wire fence which resulted in severe injury to its back legs.
Eilish tried unsuccesfully to contact the County Council, the Gardaí, and the Wildlife Service all to no avail. Eilish then contacted the Wildlife and Heritage Centre at Clontibret, Peadar Morgan got the help of neighbours Marty Brennan and Vincent Corey. All proceeded to Ballybay and brought the 2 year old fallow doe deer to the centre. With the help of John and Jeffrey Kinnear who treated it with an antibotic and pain killing injection and fed hay, meal and water the deer is being looked after until it gets better.
