THE SECOND annual Taste of Monaghan Festival was launched in the Market House in Monaghan town on Monday evening.

The festival which will run from 6 – 10 October is described as a  celebration of local products, produce, skills and quality dining in Monaghan. After refreshments were served, festival committee member Frank McEnaney began the official proceedings by welcoming those present to the launch and thanking the committee members for their hard work in organising this year’s festival. Mr McEnaney also extended thanks to the main sponsors of the five-day event, Fleming’s Department Store, Silver Hill Foods and Mallon’s Foodhall for their generous support. He concluded by expressing gratitude to Monaghan County Council and Monaghan Town Council for their financial support and assistance.

President of Monaghan Chamber of Commerce Gordon Fleming said the Taste of Monaghan Festival showcased all that was good in the local area. Speaking about the sponsors, Mr Fleming praised Silver Hill Foods for its strong involvement in the local community and the support it provides through jobs. The President commended Mallon’s Foodhall for its dedication to quality which he said was obvious by the success of the business. Mr Fleming welcomed the fact that all the pork used in Mallon’s produce is Irish and added that the future of Ireland’s food industry is in clean and fresh Irish products, something which he felt Mallon’s and Silver Hill should be recognised and praised for. Mr Fleming concluded by encouraging the public to attend the Taste of Monaghan Festival as he described it as a showcase of what people should be proud of – local producers, the town and the local area.
