BLUES FESTIVAL WELL SUPPORTED AS MONAGHAN ENJOYS WEEKEND OF HI-DECIBEL ROOTS MUSIC!

The future of Monaghan’s Harvest Time Blues festival looks secure, following another great weekend of gigs that had the county town buzzing as punters packed the venues in large numbers to enjoy some top-class acts from both sides of the Atlantic.
Committee member Sean Conlon told the Northern Standard that while the exact figures were not yet totted up, it appeared anecdotally that the numbers attending all the events were holding up well when compared with last year, especially when set against the current economic difficulties.
He said one of the remarkable features was the significant number of people who were regularly returning to Monaghan for the festival. He knew of some who regularly attended blues events in the UK and even in Europe, and they had remarked that Monaghan’s was “by far the best organised and most enjoyable, year after year”.
Asked if the festival could sustain itself into the future, Mr Conlon, who is also a member of Monaghan Town Council, said he had no doubt that it would. A downturn in ticket sales and attendances had been anticipated in the times that are in it, but this did not appear to have materialised to any great extent. The good weather on Saturday had also helped draw crowds into the town throughout the day and night.
