BEWARE INTERNET SCAMS - GLASLOUGH WOMAN’S CAUTIONARY TALE

A MONAGHAN  woman has warned the public to be wary of an Internet scam after she became a victim of hackers.
Azelia Jackson is a professional freelance make-up artist and runs her own school of make-up in Glaslough.
She conducts much of her business through email and on Monday last, 28th November, she received a number of emails claiming to be from Yahoo accounts department asking her to verify her email address by responding with her password.
The email stated that this needed to be done due to overcongestion and if a response was not received Azelia’s account would be closed.
Azelia told the Northern Standard that while she was quite suspicious of the emails she could not take the risk of her account being closed as many of her clients contact her regularly by email.
Once she responded to the email Azelia immediately contacted her social media advisor who informed her that her account had been targeted by hackers and advised Azelia to change her email password immediately.
Having successfully managed to do this Azelia then transferred the contacts from her Yahoo account to a new Gmail account.
However, it transpired that all Azelia’s contacts had been sent an email by the hackers from her Yahoo account making out that Azelia was stranded alone in Spain and was in urgent need of money…
